The Continuous Group of Companies has grown from strength to strength... growing nationally but staying passionately connected to our local communities. It's our down-to-earth, hands-on approach that sets us apart and from this we have built a reputation for getting stuck in and getting the job done right. After decades in the industry, our people continue to "go the extra mile" with practicality, reliability and honesty.
Roger & Karen Talbot - Owners
Born and raised in Auckland, Roger began his life with Continuous as a 16 year old school boy earning some extra money in the school holidays, joining us full time in April 1994. After five or so years and with a lot of experience up his sleeve, he took some time out to live and work in England with his lovely wife, Karen - working as a chippy as well as assisting with the set-up of Continuous Guttering UK. On their return to New Zealand, Roger and Karen joined Colin Warn at Continuous Northland and in time set up Barracuda Ceiling Battens and Northland Spouting Specialists.
By 2009 their team strength and passion for the industry saw them in a position to buy out Colin and today Northland Continuous Spouting have tripled their market share and are the trusted rainwater specialists in both the domestic and Group Housing market.
Richard Mabin - Owner
Richard Mabin was born and educated in Nelson before attending Lincoln College in Canterbury for two years. After completing a Diploma in Agriculture and Farm Management he travelled overseas for 4 years, eventually returning to Hawkes Bay in 1989 with his English fiancee, Liz, to establish a Chemwash franchise. They became interested in the continuous spouting concept and moved to Auckland in 1991 to set up a business specialising in continuous spouting with just one 125/150mm Knudson gutter machine and one installer. Operating from a single car garage in Gillies Ave initially, this first machine was towed by a 1965 Hillman Super Minx station-wagon. Since then, Continuous Spouting Auckland has grown from strength to strength and Richard takes great pride, not only in becoming a national market leader through the Continuous Group, but also in being an intrinsic part of market product innovation over the years.
Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Alison Cary & Tony Crookston - Owners
There is a long-winded story about how a dairy farmer's daughter from England ended up owning a spouting installation business in New Zealand... The shorter yarn is that milking cows held no allure for Alison, but she observed her father's business accumen and, following a 4 year Business Studies degree, began a successful corporate career. The "rat race" of UK business life took its toll and a family connection presented the opportunity to join Continuous Spouting in Auckland as General Manager. From there, it was just small steps to get to purchase the Waikato/Bay of Plenty branch of Continuous with business partner, Tony Crookston - already a well-established installer with the previous business owner.
Tony Crookston stumbled into spouting 12 years ago when he was looking for a change from truck driving and the chance to work for himself. He has built up a strong reputation for his work ethic and attention to detail and this is evident in the relationships Continuous Waikato/BOP have with their local builders and building franchises.
Alison and Tony's partnership is one that works well; complimentary skills of installation management and business management offer the homeowners of the Waikato and Bay of Plenty a high quality service and workmanship standard.
Michael Christophers - Owner
After moving around much of the North Island during his childhood, Mike's family finally settled in Gisborne in 1989 where sunshine, cricket and rugby soon became the norm for him. After school Mike took to the building industry until a random chance to do continuous spouting as a contractor with Dugald Hamilton arose. Ten years and thousands of metres later, 2012 brought new opportunity to step up and buy the business with a view to continuing the growth.
Mike takes great pride in now being the preferred Group Building supplier for the region and having more than a fair share of the local market. He and his lovely partner Nicole, along with their young children, enjoy the lifestyle of the East Coast and look forward to many more years of success in the place they love to call home.
Mark Lawson - Owner
Mark was born & raised in Napier and, upon leaving school, completed his Carpentry apprenticeship to become a qualified builder. After his "OE" to Australia, he settled in the Hawkes Bay, becoming a roofing contractor for Carters in 1990. A short break from the industry saw Mark start up Rooftech Hawkes Bay in 2002, which has fast become one of the largest roofing companies in the region, supplying & installing all roofing products, including metal fascia & gutter.
Mark & his team have a reputation for providing an excellent standard of workmanship & service, so joining the Continuous Group in June of 2016 meant a perfect fit into a great brand. They are excited to now be in a postion to grow this sector of their business & provide their loyal customers with even better product ranges & services.
Darrell & Brendon Back - Owners
Founded in 1983 by Darrell Back, Taranaki Steelformers is now an intrinsic part of the region's building industry with their manufacturing of long-run roofing and wall cladding products. Back in 1997, Darrell recognised the opportunity to compliment his business with high quality rainwater goods and joined the Continuous Group supplying and installing continuous spouting, downpipes and fascia. Darrell is an active member of the New Zealand Metal Roofing Manufacturer's Association after recently stepping down from his 21+ years as President.
Born and bred in "The 'Naki", Brendon Back joined his father in this highly respected family business in 1996 and is excited to be part of the "next generation" leadership. He enjoyed a three year sojourn to the UK back in 2004 to play championship rugby - returning to New Zealand with valuable experience to bring to his NPC rugby and a lovely English wife, Claire.
Taranaki Steelformers are very proud of their reputation for high quality workmanship from group housing builds through to architecturally designed houses, supplying only marine-grade product to withstand the harsh Taranaki environment. As thanks for unwavering community support, the Backs "give back" through sponsorship to rugby, race meetings, rescue helicopters and the famous Taranaki Steelformers Round The Mountain Relay which last saw around 2,500 people compete.
Paul & Cath Engel - Owners
Paul & Cath Engel are proud Continuous Group Licensees and along with their passion for excellent Fascia and Spouting products they bring a wealth of experience from having 20+ years in the roofing industry. They remain committed to continued growth, maintaining their high level of workmanship and service to this region.
Top Of The South
Pete Hoare - Owner
Born and raised on a sheep/cattle property in South Canterbury, Pete attended a boarding school in Oamaru and later attended Lincoln College, graduating with a Diploma in Agriculture. After working for a time on the home farm, he left on his O.E., ending up in Australia and working a number of jobs to gain funds for his commercial helicopter licence. Once he had obtained that, Pete enjoyed a few years flying in North Western Australia and the Northern Territories, visiting home on a number of occasions. On one such visit in 1994, he reconnected with Richard Mabin and Hec McQuarrie where the opportunity arose to set up Continuous Spouting in the Nelson and Marlborough regions. By 1995 he had his first machine and began to set the foundations for what is now a very successful business, highly respected in both the commercial and domestic sectors of the industry.
Pete, his lovely wife Amanda and their two children are very established in the Top Of The South, involving themselves in mountain biking, kayaking/surf ski racing and lifesaving, tramping and all manner of outdoor pursuits. In Pete's words, "We really treasure our lifestyle here and wouldn't give it up for quids".
Canterbury, Westland & Otago
Ian "Hec" McQuarrie - Owner
Hec was brought up in the sunny Hawkes Bay and, upon leaving school, attended Lincoln College (where the name Hec came from), graduating with a Diploma in Agriculture. He spent two years shepherding in the Canterbury High Country before breaking away to travel overseas. Upon his eventual return, Hec took on a roof re-surfacing distributorship in the Hawkes Bay where renewed Lincoln College friendships were made with Richard Mabin and the plotting of the Continuous concept began. Canterbury, however, was calling again and in 1993 Hec towed his newly imported continuous spouting machine to Christchurch where Canterbury Continuous Spouting was born.
In between hunting, white water kayaking and mountain biking throughout the South Island, Hec married a North Canterbury farmer's daughter and they now have added 3 little red and black one-eyed monsters to the planet. Together they have formed Otago Continuous and Southland Continuous and have developed a strong Continuous brand in the Deep South. Says Hec, "Loyal, highly skilled and personable staff have all made a major contribution to build the stongest rainwater goods brand in the South Island".
Pete Cox - Owner
Prior to settling in Invercargill, Pete enjoyed a rich assortment of experience in civil engineering, farming and agricultural contracting. When he joined our team in 2010 to install spouting and fascia, however, he discovered a career he "would never get tired of". Pete shares his love of Southland and all it offers in the way of fishing, hunting and surf lifesaving and has loved being back embracing all it has to offer. Pete joined the Group as Southland owner at the beginning of 2016 - bringing his valuable installation experience and competence from his previous background.
Pete recently won the award for the largest increase in sales at our recent 2018 Continuous Group awards night.
